2021 Will Be the Year of Enterprise Imaging Centralization

The end of the year is always an exciting time to work in enterprise imaging. RSNA, the biggest radiology tradeshow of the year, kicks off right after the last turkey day football game ends. Then, in the blink of an eye, the holidays and year are coming to an end, and you’re envisioning what new technology innovations the next calendar year will bring; Will 2021 be the year of remote reading? Will artificial intelligence (AI) become a new collaborative partner to radiologist workflow? Will imaging interoperability finally become a universal reality?

At Fujifilm, some of our greatest enterprise imaging innovations have stemmed from ongoing conversations with customers like you. We’ve heard that some of your greatest challenges revolve around disparate IT systems, inconsistent departmental workflows, inadequate security, and insufficient data access. We’ve also heard that managing and maintaining this surplus of systems has become increasingly demanding for IT personnel – not to mention expensive, particularly as businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, what will 2021 have in store for enterprise imaging? We predict that we’ll start to see more of a shift towards system centralization and standardization.

Healthcare enterprises have a growing need for a single, core enterprise imaging platform – one that supports radiology, mammography, cardiology, advanced visualization, and specialty department imaging  – and unifies all of that data so the complete patient picture is available to all end users. And from an IT standpoint, that unified architecture also simplifies their environment and helps keep costs down.

I recently spoke with Imaging Technology News Associate Editor Dave Fornell about how Fujifilm is making this prediction a reality for today’s enterprise through our Synapse 7x platform. Using server-side technology, the pioneering visualization platform converges the functionalities of Synapse Radiology PACS, Cardiology PACS, 3D Advanced Visualization, VNA, and Fujifilm’s AI-enabled technology REiLI® on one common viewer – allowing IT personnel to manage and maintain one core enterprise imaging system.
